If you are traveling as a family or group, each passenger should have a separate ride credential. If one person needs to pay for several people, it is easier to buy separate single-ride tickets for the other passengers at a ticket machine rather than repeatedly trying to use one card at the gate.

Option 2: Use the Metro QR Code in Alipay

If you already use Alipay in China, the Metro QR code is also convenient.

A typical setup is:

1. Open Alipay.
2. Choose Travel.
3. Select Metro.
4. Choose Beijing if the city is not already selected.
5. Follow the prompts to activate the Beijing metro transport code.
6. Scan the QR code at the entrance gate.

This is still perfectly fine.

At most subway stations, you can use a ticket vending machine or ask at the manned service counter.

Ticket machines normally have an English interface.
